Chicago, IL — June 11, 2010 — Autonomic Materials, a company commercializing self-healing coatings technology, engages VentureLab to provide business advisory services and assist with its private placement.
Autonomic Materials, Inc. (AMI), is commercializing a unique and proprietary self-healing platform technology for use in high performance coatings and related applications. AMI’s products are based on the breakthrough research of the Autonomous Materials Systems Group at the University of Illinois, who have developed and patented technologies for the production of self-healing polymer systems. Self-healing agents are micro-encapsulated, and then incorporated into coatings, where they deliver an automatic healing response whenever coating damage occurs.  Because the coating is repaired immediately and automatically, the surface is protected and the coating lifetime is extended.
The initial AMI application is targeted at corrosion prevention for capital-intensive assets. AMI’s technology platform is extendable and, in the longer term, AMI will market self-healing products to a range of significant, performance-focused, global markets such as Structural Composites and High-Performance Adhesives. AMI will sell finished self-healing microcapsules directly to coating producers and will employ a toll-manufacturing strategy to produce them. Scale-up trials are underway.
AMI is currently working with several major coatings producers, as well as end-users, and has a rapidly expanding portfolio of projects at various stages.
